As we see alarming spikes in COVID-19 cases around the country, its corrosive effects on our nation’s strategic assets intensifies. This is clearly true in regard to medical and public health progress and the federal agencies that play a pivotal role in advancing that progress. Congress must act quickly to stabilize research and assure federal research agencies can bounce back from the disruptive effects of the pandemic. That means advancing a fifth emergency spending bill that restores COVID-19 eroded research funding, and completing the FY21 appropriations process so that federal agencies can bounce back from the disruptive impacts of the pandemic on day-to-day operations.
