The threat has re-emerged at Hot Creek and KORE Mining wants to begin exploratory drilling once again. Hot Creek is a rare geothermal system and a globally recognized fly-fishing destination that supports a vibrant recreation-based economy. It is also a vital watershed, critical wildlife habitat, and an area of deep cultural significance, including Indigenous cultural and heritage resources. Under the current administration, mining companies have been granted more freedoms and less restrictions, and we need your help more than ever.

Four years ago, on September 27th 2021, the USFS granted Canadian company KORE Mining a Categorical Exclusion (CE) to drill at Hot Creek Geologic Site. A coalition of local organizations took KORE Mining and the USFS to court and won. But the current administration has dismantled many environmental protections and safeguards communities have against mining companies. This time, the process by which KORE Mining can submit applications for drilling and begin the project are much different. Because of these changes, they have once again submitted a proposal to the USFS for exploratory drilling, and the public is not even being solicited for input.

Congressman Kevin Kiley has positioned himself as a champion for public lands, and especially, for local public input on what happens to these lands. Let's urge him to act like this champion and stand up for the people and lands in his district. Put in your information and send a letter, email, or phone call with our easy to use portal.
