Encourage KY Legislators to Protect Medical Conscience Rights

UPDATE: The Senate passed SB 72 by a vote of 28-5. Now, the House must take action on the bill.

SB 72 from Sen. Douglas would enact comprehensive medical conscience protections. This important bill protects doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals from being forced to perform harmful or unethical procedures that violate their oath and conscience. Likewise, SB 72 enables patients to know that their doctors have full confidence in the treatments they recommend and perform.

Several states have legislation with conscience protections similar to SB 72. These states include Illinois (1977), Arkansas (2021), Ohio (2021), South Carolina (2022), Montana (2023), Florida (2023), Mississippi (2024), Idaho (2025), and Tennessee (2025). The success of these statutes in other states ought to encourage this General Assembly to address the issue of medical conscience this year. After seven years of considering this important legislation—including the legislation passing out of the Senate in 2024 and 2025—now is the time to secure the conscience rights of professionals to provide greater services to patients with SB 72.

15 state and national pro-life and pro-family organizations have supported passing this important legislation in Kentucky. Ask your Representative to ensure that free speech, medical conscience, and religious liberty rights are properly protected by supporting SB 72.
