Urge Oldham County Schools to Approve LifeWise Academy
Last session, the General Assembly passed SB 19, which created a process for local school districts to allow off-campus moral instruction, including Bible classes. These classes would be completely optional for families and students to participate in, and the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the First Amendment allows these optional off-campus Bible classes (Zorach v. Clauson in 1952). Now local school boards must approve prospective programs that seek to offer those classes to families in the local school system. The Family Foundation has partnered with LifeWise Academy to share information about this new legal change and to bring these optional off-campus Bible classes to local school districts. LifeWise is a Christian non-profit that provides off-campus Bible classes to students during the school day. Over 1,000 schools across 34 states allow students to participate in a LifeWise program during school hours. LifeWise provides the programming, transportation, and staff without receiving any taxpayer funding. You can learn more about LifeWise at their website.Unfortunately, anti-religious freedom advocates have taken to the media to spread false claims about LifeWise, the law, and moral instruction overall. Ultimately, this smear campaign has been orchestrated by those who want to deny Christian parents the constitutionally-protected opportunity to provide Bible instruction to their kids as a part of their education.LifeWise Academy recently petitioned the Oldham County School Board for approval with a vote scheduled for Monday, August 25 at 4:45 P.M. The meeting will take place at the Arvin Education Center (1650 Colonel Dr., La Grange, KY 40031). It is Incredibly important that supporters of LifeWise are present at this meeting, whether to testify in support or just to show strong support for the program. Additionally, we need supporters to email your local school officials to show your support for LifeWise. If you live in Oldham County, it is vital that the school board and Superintendent hear from you!
