Urgent Request: Default Safety Filters ON for All Minors, Ages 13–17

After years of advocacy, Apple has just announced it will automatically enable sexually explicit content filters and blurring for all minors ages 13 to 17. We’re urging Google's Android to follow suit. This is an emerging new safety standard.

Currently, Google applies filtering for Android through Family Link at the Gmail account level—but filters are not always turned on by default for teens 13 and older. This age group is at greatest risk of online exploitation, including sextortion, and desperately needs stronger protections.

Far too often, teens harmed online lacked safety settings simply because they were “too old.” It’s time to close this gap. Filters should be defaulted ON for all minors, regardless of age.

We urge Google to lead by example and make this essential change!
