Help Stop the Pornographic Schoolbook Bills
Massachusetts legislators are pushing radical bills that would make it nearly impossible to remove pornographic material from public school libraries.
H.3594/S.2328, An Act regarding free expression, and H.3598, An Act protecting against attempts to ban, are deceptively named. These bills would:
• Strip local school committees of the authority to remove age-inappropriate books• Hand broad power to activist school librarians• Allow lawsuits against schools that try to protect students from explicit content
We call them the Pornographic Schoolbook Bills because that’s exactly what they defend.
Parents, through the elected school committee members who represent them, should have the ultimate say on what content is appropriate for their children. But these bills would tie their hands.Read more about why we oppose these bills in our brief HERE.
