Across the United States, thousands of monkeys, apes, and other nonhuman primates are kept as pets in private homes, victims of the cruel and dangerous exotic pet trade. These pet monkeys and other primates live lives of horrendous suffering in unnatural and stifling captive conditions. And, not only is keeping wild animals as pets cruel, it is also very dangerous. The Captive Primate Safety Act (H.R. 3199/S. 1594) would ban the private keeping of primates as pets in the U.S., ending a cruel and dangerous trade that threatens public safety and animal welfare.
