Urge the KY House to Pass SB 132 and Protect Medical Conscience Rights!

Time is running out for the General Assembly to protect medical conscience rights in Kentucky! After 6 years of considering this important legislation, the House must take swift action to protect conscience rights by giving final passage to SB 132. A coalition of state and national doctors and organizations has sent a letter asking House leadership to schedule a final vote on SB 132 when the General Assembly returns on March 27 and 28 to override the governor's vetoes. Read the letter.

SB 132 by Sen. Donald Douglas prevents doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals from being forced to perform harmful or unethical procedures that violate their oath and conscience. Likewise, it enables patients to know that their doctors have full confidence in the treatments they recommend and perform. Kentucky healthcare professionals should not be forced to do or recommend procedures that violate their sincerely held religious or ethical beliefs.

SB 132 has passed the Senate and its House committee and just needs to be called for a vote. Unfortunately, House leadership did not call it before the veto recess began, meaning the General Assembly cannot override a veto from Gov. Beshear. However, the House still has a chance to pass SB 132 when members return on March 27 and 28.

Please ask the House to give final passage to SB 132.
