Urge KY Legislators to Bring Ten Commandments Back to KY Capitol & Schools
UPDATE: HJR 15, Rep. Shane Baker's joint resolution to restore the Ten Commandments monument to the Capitol grounds, was passed by the House State Government Committee and is awaiting a vote by the full Kentucky House.
With a more conservative U.S. Supreme Court that has been willing to correct bad precedent harming the First Amendment, members of the KY General Assembly are working to restore the Ten Commandments monument to the Kentucky Capitol and attempting to get the Court to overturn its decision that removed the Ten Commandments from Kentucky's schools.HJR 15 by Rep. Shane Baker would restore the Ten Commandments monument back to the KY Capitol grounds, 25 years after the ACLU successfully sued to block its reinstallation in 2000. HB 65 from Rep. Josh Calloway would require Kentucky schools to display the Ten Commandments and an explanation of their impact on American history in every Kentucky public school. This bill would reinstate the law the Supreme Court overturned in the 1980 Stone v. Graham decision. HB 116 by Rep. Richard White would add the Ten Commandments to the list of historic documents that school boards may authorize teachers to use while teaching American history. Read HJR 15 here for a great explanation on the history of the Ten Commandment monument at the KY Capitol. The Ten Commandments had an immense impact on American history and on the legal principles that made our country and Commonwealth so strong throughout history.
