Urge KY Legislators to Strengthen Religious Liberty
Kentucky is falling behind on religious liberty! According to the Religious Liberty in the States Index, Kentucky ranks 34th in the nation for religious liberty protections. Two important bills this session are seeking to strengthen religious liberty in the Commonwealth and improve that ranking.SB 60 & HB 177 update Kentucky's Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) to include a right for Kentuckians to sue when government overly burdens their religious liberty. Additionally, the changes include definitions for the existing RFRA provisions, protecting Kentuckians from activist judges that try to avoid religious liberty protections. The Commonwealth's current law is the shortest of all 23 states that have one, and that makes it vulnerable to misinterpretations that undermine religious liberty.SB 132 prevents doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals from being forced to perform harmful or unethical procedures that violate their oath and conscience. Likewise, it enables patients to know that their doctors have full confidence in the treatments they recommend and perform. Please ask the General Assembly to strengthen religious liberty by passing SB 60/HB 177 & SB 132.
