Dear ____

I am a constituent in your district and I am writing to ask that you consider legislation requiring the pornography industry to verify age and meaningful consent for individuals depicted in their videos for the 2025 legislative session.

Pornography sites have gotten away with uploading and profiting from exploitative and criminal content for far too long. Most pornography platforms have no age or consent verification for those depicted in the videos.

Consider the case of the survivor plaintiff in the lawsuit Jane Doe v. WebGroup Czech Republic et al. As a child, Jane Doe was sex trafficked and sold to those who paid to sexually abuse her. Some of these acts of sexual abuse were recorded on video and uploaded to XVideos—the biggest pornography website in the world.

The lawsuit alleges that XVideos never attempted to verify Jane Doe’s age or identity. As a result, child sex abuse material depicting Jane Doe was distributed broadly across the Internet and the world. She will likely never be able to remove all copies of her abuse videos; this is itself an additional trauma and abuse that lives long after the physical abuse ended. .

Jane Doe is only one of countless survivors who have been victimized on mainstream pornography sites. Because pornography sites profit off of rape, child abuse, sex trafficking, and image-based sexual abuse, there is little motivation for them to make the necessary meaningful changes of their own accord. This is why Congress must require them to make changes!

For the 2025 legislative session, I urge you to consider legislation that will ensure individuals who are portrayed in pornographic videos have given informed, meaningful consent and are of legal age.

Your action is essential because we cannot rely on the pornography industry to make these changes themselves. Policies like these are vital to end sexual exploitation for all people!
