HB 536 - Anti-bullying policies should apply to everyone and not elevate one groups of students over another group of students.

This bill would amend the current bullying definition by specifically creating a special protection for students who are members in a group that is protected from discrimination pursuant to the Virginia Human Rights Act (i.e., sexual orientation and gender identity). This bill would cause schools to give special protections to those bullied based on the sexual orientation or gender identity, while complaints by students not in this category could be dismissed.
