The Time is Now for Essential Child Protection Legislation:
Inform Your Representative about KOSA!

The Kids Online Safety Act, one of the strongest child protection bills in Congress now, was just introduced in the House of Representatives by Representatives Bilirakis (R-FL-12), Castor (D-FL-14), Houchin (R-IN-09), and Schrier (D-WA-08). The Kids Online Safety Act (HR 7891) would establish protections for children from harmful algorithms and encourage safer online communications for both children and parents. With 67 cosponsors in the Senate, including Leader Schumer, we are heavily advocating for support in the House to move this child protection legislation over the finish line.

Dear Rep. [First Name, Last Name],

As a devoted constituent, I hope you watched the Senate Judiciary Hearing on January 31 at which CEOs of Meta, X, TikTok, Snap, and Discord testified.

In light of this hearing, we want to ensure that you are aware of the Kids Online Safety Act (HR 7819) introduced by Representatives Bilirakis (R-FL-12), Castor (D-FL-14), Houchin (R-IN-09), and Schrier (D-WA-08). In the Senate, this legislation has 67 Bipartisan co-sponsors, including Leader Schumer. It is the strongest proposed legislation in Congress to protect children online.

The hearing revealed that Big Tech is not taking initiative to protect children online despite the harms that their platforms cause. Mark Zuckerberg suggested, under oath, that social media is not directly related to poor mental health outcomes, as parents whose children died due to the harms on social media platforms sat just rows behind him. The evidence suggests otherwise.

Social media platforms have become hubs for child sexual abuse material (CSAM, aka child pornography), sextortion schemes, deadly drugs, eating disorder material, suicide instructions, and other harmful, even fatal, traps because the platforms are dangerous BY DESIGN. This harmful content has the potential to reach every child in Washington if you do not take action.

The children and parents in our state need decisive action from you. I ask that you please support KOSA in the House, and urge Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA-05), Chair of the Energy & Commerce committee to support KOSA.

Please, we ask that you be a leader and advocate for America’s children.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
