Encourage KY Legislators to Protect Parental Rights in Our Schools
Some Kentucky schools blatantly refusing to follow last year's SB 150 by allowing student instruction in gender identity and sexual orientation, undermining student privacy and safety rights in restrooms and locker rooms, intimidating and threatening teachers and staff with disciplinary action if they exercise their First Amendment rights, and threatening teachers with disciplinary action if they didn’t hide student information from parents. These violations of the law show the need for HB 304's enforcement provision.A recent situation in Anderson County, KY involving guidance counselor who self-identified as the “cheerleader of the gays” recently faced allegations of misconduct after keeping parents in the dark, exchanging 200+ text messages and phone calls with a student, and conspiring to frame the parents for “emotional abuse.” HB 304, by Rep. Shane Baker, includes a parental notification requirement to help ensure parents have the information they need to care for their children.
