A leaked Office of Management and Budget document indicates that the President’s Fiscal Year 2026 Budget will propose cutting the National Institutes of Health (NIH) budget by nearly half (43%) in Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) and collapsing the NIH’s structure from 27 to 8 institutes. Reportedly, the budget will also continue to promote a 15% cap on indirect cost reimbursement. The President’s budget is a proposal, not a final bill. We need Congress to reject this proposal and instead grow our nation’s role in combating deadly and debilitating health threats.
